"Emily and Quetzal lead an amazing girls group. They always make us feel welcome and like we can say anything and be our true selves. I love this group!" - Teen

Program Details

As girls* make choices that will affect the rest of their lives, what support are we offering them? Our Real Talk Curriculum offers practical wisdom to help teens 9th-12th grade cultivate meaningful friendships, practice authentic self expression, and make choices that truly serve them. We support the girls* as they navigate the complexity of being a teen in these times, creating a space for them grow self-esteem, wisdom, and belonging. We help them develop essential life skills and decision making tools, in a safe circle to practice and learn.

All groups are facilitated by both Emily & Quetzal to provide the strongest leadership we have to offer. This models strength in difference, as well as the power of our sisterhood and working partnership. We also blend ages and grades in our groups to support "best fit" rather than just default to grade regarding enrollment. We have found this flexibility supports diversity (in many ways) in each group, and creates a stronger learning environment.

Our program is designed to be a school-year long commitment, so ideally the same group of girls stay together for one or more years. This is how we build a strong "village" to hold the girls coming of age process, as mentors and as a community around them. Due to the small group size, we prioritize families able to commit to the entire school year. Last year we had 100% re-enrollment, which meant groups only had a few open spaces. Our hope is girls will participate fully, attending all or as many gatherings as possible. You may be added to a wait list if the group is already full, or you are unable to commit to the entire school year.

We also hope parents will attend the Parent Meetings. Parents who engage in the circle with us feel less alone on the parenting journey, gain useful skills and are nourished by the shared conversation. We have noticed a positive impact on the whole family, when everyone shows up to the program.

Have more questions? Visit our Teen Curriculum for more information about what we do together, or our FAQ.

*We understand gender identity to be fluid and expressed in many ways. Our programs welcome teens along the gender spectrum who are assigned female at birth and/or socialized female. Please see our website for our extended gender inclusive policy

  • Zoom meetings as needed

IMPORTANT UPDATES:
Due to COVID19 we had to shift our entire program online for Spring 2020. As a result of the continued presence of the virus, we have developed a hybrid program that hopefully meets needs for contact, community, and safety. Detailed protocols will be sent as part of the Parent Agreement, and can be viewed here.

In person meetings are
socially distant, masked, outdoors in the East Bay CA.
This assumes state regulations allow for socially distant gatherings during program months. If we need to cancel in-person meetings due to Covid-19 restrictions, fires or any other unforeseen serious risks, we will switch to online for those months with as much notice as possible.

Online meetings will be using secure links via Zoom. We strongly prefer girls use a computer instead of their phones so they can use "gallery view" to see the full group, not just the speaker. We also suggest figuring out with your daughter (and maybe taking the lead to do so) where she can take the calls in a private space where she can trust no one is listening. Please make sure they have access to headphones for privacy as well. Thank you!

* What is the “Tier 2 Pay It Forward” option?
We believe that all teens should have access to these important conversations, including those for whom our rates are a financial barrier. In order to do that, we offer scholarships to as many teens as possible. Please consider making a difference in a teen’s life through our “Pay It Forward” option, which includes gifting a little extra towards a scholarship to another teen.

** We are committed to making this important opportunity available to all girls. We offer various levels of scholarship based on need. Please indicate in your registration if you need some sort of financial assistance, and we will do our best to set up a payment plan that works for your family.
