Meet Your Facilitators
Emily Frost & Charis Denison
One day you have a child, the next - a teenager! This transition is an incredible vortex of developmental shifts, emotional and intellectual changes, and a great broadening of possibility and potential. One of the most important tasks of this time is to help your child in this process. Are you ready? Or in Charis' words, how will you "keep your kids alive and stay sane while doing it?"
Spend 3 evenings with nationally recognized youth advocate, Charis Denison, and mentor/educator Emily Frost, in a lively workshop focusing on what teens are doing, what they want, what they need, and how your role as parents fits into that reality. You will leave with a clearer understanding of what your teen is experiencing and strategies to best support them in a way that helps them make more decisions that end in honor and joy rather than in regret, guilt, or shame. Come ready to ask tough questions and get real answers!
Resources:
TedX talks by Charis - The Flip Side of Teen Behavior and Young Men's Relationship to Culture
Brief article by Emily - 'Empowering Girls Early Sexual Experiences'
Girls & Sex, by Peggy Orenstein
Other Books: Talk To Me First, by Deborah Roffman, Come As You Are, by Emily Nagoski, American Girls, by Nancy Jo Sales

Praise for the facilitators...
"Charis Denison has an amazing rapport with adolescents. Part of it must be the way she exudes, at the same time, both empathy and authority. On one hand, she’s a keen listener, one who never condescends students, but treats them like fellow humans; on the other hand, she speaks with the clarity and assurance of an expert. One gets the sense there isn’t any crisis she hasn’t dealt with before. She also has a near-magical quality of realness, an authenticity devoid of contrivance, to which teenagers (and people in general) respond immediately. She is by turn irreverent, challenging, startlingly direct; she brings insight, compassion, and fearlessness to her work. She is that rare educator to whom adolescents want to listen, and with whom they want to be honest.” —S.R. SF alumn working with Charis |
"You can definitely count my daughter in for the upcoming session. She is ridiculously happy with the group you facilitate. I cannot thank you enough for filling this void! You have stepped in gracefully and knowledgeably and with a bunch of other girls! She is quite happy, and, as a result, makes a little more room for me. I also want to thank you for the updates that are just enough information to make me feel connected, and in feeling connected, I can behave in a more supportive manner. You strike a perfect balance." - H.D. Marin parent working with Emily |
